FROM THE SENIOR WARDEN Well, here we find ourselves at the end of another school year and summer ready to begin. I'd like to personally thank the Church School staff and any others who have helped out with the children throughout the year. They are a dedicated group and I want them to know that they are greatly appreciated. We are now on our summer schedule with one 9 AM service every week. With the school year ending soon and summer beginning, I know many of you will have many other things to do this summer. I'm hoping we can keep coming to the Sunday services as often as possible. The schedule has been filled with different supply priests with many different styles. And with the on-going Search for a new Rector, I'm sure we may have a few visitors checking us out this summer. Speaking of the search, the Search Committee has been meeting weekly, sometimes more than once a week. They are a hardworking group dedicated to finding the right person for our parish. They are currently interviewing prospective candidates. Hopefully, with our prayers and God's help, we'll have a new Rector before long. We are also getting ready for a very big project that is, replacing our aged heating system. Because the boilers were reported to be in such bad shape, the vestry wanted to be proactive and get this project accomplished in the summer, rather than wait for a major problem to occur in the winter when it is 20 degrees outside. We are well on our way towards funding the project with the ECW having pledged $3,000. The proceeds from the May Breakfast totaling over $1,000 will also been donated. A generous parishioner has offered to match funds raised from other parish members up to $3,500. Any amount that you could pledge would be greatly appreciated. Remember, this project's goal is to make sure our church building will be usable and efficient for many years to come. An efficient heating system should also cut down on the outrageous heating expenses our church has incurred over the last few years. This is an exciting time here at St. Mark's with a lot going on. I hope to see you all throughout the summer.

EPISCOPAL CHURCH WOMEN Our June meeting is always a luncheon and this year we will, once again, meet at The Old Grist Mill on June 7th at 12 o’clock noon, We hope you have signed up to be with us to enjoy this time with friends as well as enjoying excellent food. Our wish is for you to have an enjoyable summer and we hope you will join with us on September 2nd at 7:00 pm for our meeting. At this date we have a number of programs planned so think about joining us. The meetings are 7-9 pm.
ECW President PASTORAL CARE COMMITTEE On May 10th, we celebrated our Annual Senior Luncheon. It was attended by over 30 people who enjoyed a delicious Luncheon of Chicken Salad, Rolls, Green Beans, and Cole Slaw. Much conversation occurred before and during the meal as many people were able to connect with friends they do not get to see very often. The meal was topped off with dessert of cake and fruited jello salad. Many thanks go to the committee members who helped with supplying the food and helping serve the delicious meal. Special thanks go to Betty McVay, Jillian Vieira, and Sue Rossi who helped serve along with members of the Committee: Myra Duhamel, Elizabeth Luther, Linda Lawson, and Ruth Pace. It was great to see so many people there. An even more special thanks to Judy Oberg and Sue Rossi for setting up the tables and decorating them. Also thanks to Judy for the beautiful shiny floors! (I had many comments about how clean and great the floors looked!) The afternoon ended with a wonderful Eucharist held in the West Chapel and officiated by The Reverend Jennifer K. West. We look forward to next Spring when hopefully we will continue to have our now Annual Senior Luncheon.

LOOKING AHEAD Tuesday, August 12th The Vestry Meeting is at 7:00 pm. Saturday, August 23rd starts St. Mark’s 6 week rotation for Meals on Wheels. TRI-PARISH PICNIC St. Mary’s, St. Matthews, and St. Mark’s will gather together on Sunday, June 22nd at 9:30 am at Colt State Park in Bristol for a service of Holy Eucharist with a picnic and fellowship. This is a great day to share with your whole family. The same spot as last year has been reserved. It has a water view, bathrooms, and there were games for the kids. A great time was had by all last year. Don’t miss out!! Sign-up sheets will be in each parish to help bring things, so no one person or church is donating everything. It will be done like last year, if your last name started with A to L you brought s this or that. Not that it is going to rain on our picnic, but if God feels we need rain that day, The service and picnic will still go on and will be held at St. Mark’s Church. VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL VBS will be the week of July 7th to July 11th, and our closing program on Sunday, July 13th at 9:00 AM. This year’s theme is “Power Lab; Discovering Jesus’ Miraculous Power”. Registration forms are available and should be returned no later than Sunday, June 1st. Looking for the easy way to help, but can’t spare the time? You can make a donation to help us with the high cost of materials. This year to fit our theme we have small & big beakers. A small space has been left blank so you can write the name of someone special or in memory of someone. A poster is hanging on one of the doors in the Narthex to post your beaker. Thank you! Without your extra support ministries like VBS would not be possible. If anyone would like to help see Myra Duhamel. A poster for the snacks that will be served over the week of VBS is posted in the Parish Hall. It has a list of items that are needed please sign your name near the items you can donate. |

MAY BREAKFAST 2008 Another successful May Breakfast was held here at St. Marks on Saturday, May, 03, 2008 serving over 130 guests. We cleared a total of $ 1,074.41 which has been designated for heating costs, to help with converting over to gas. Kelly was at the helm with the egg flipper again doing an outstanding job. Although I did manage to sneak a picture of me at the grill when Kelly wasn’t looking, even though that is not allowed after the fire alarm incident last year! I hope all the pancake lovers noticed that we shifted from the usual frozen pancakes to fresh made! And the toast… need I say more. Thank you Mike! We had a new helper this year. Kelly’s babysitter, Tiffany, jumped into the action and helped serve. Thank you Tiffany, it was a pleasure having you joins our St. Mark’s family! Another new addition this year was our Raffle, which was such a great success thanks to Keith Bernard. Keith did an extraordinary job selling our placemat ads and obtaining many, many gift certificates for our 1st annual May Breakfast raffle. The raffle raised $260 which virtually covered our food costs. Since the raffle was such a success it will be back next year! Special thanks to all who helped make this event such a fun and successful event again! Thanks to all who were there on Friday to help with set up and to all who were there serving, cooking and cleaning on Saturday! Thank you to our great youth group helpers! And of course, thank to you all who supported our event and enjoyed a wonderful breakfast. See you again next year! Linda Vieira OUTREACH With summer approaching we will start collecting “kid friendly” foods, snacks, and juices to be donated to our local food bank. Please keep in mind that summer can be the hard on the food banks. They are always in need of tuna, cereals, peanut butter, and canned veggies. |
THEME BASKETS Before you know it our annual Bazaar will be here and hopefully you have been thinking about making up a Theme Basket for it. The summer months are a perfect time to collect whatever is need for your basket so keep this in your thoughts. The Theme Baskets bring in a large percent of our total profit and most of our profit is returned to the church for whatever projects are needed. ST. MARK’S WEB SITE The web site has been running for a little over 2 years, April 2006-May 2008. During this time we have had over 4400 visits to our site, not only from here in Rhode Island, but more than 20 states plus at least 8 foreign countries. This averages out to approximately 183 visit per month, or 6 per day. If you haven't done so recently, take a look. www.stmarksriverside.org Stan Ulbrych YOUTH GROUP Summer time is here and the Youth Group has even more fun planned for the summer. On Friday, June 6th they will make dessert for Meals on Wheels and make more goodie for a Bake Sale on Sunday June 8th. All the proceeds will help finance our summer fun. Everyone’s favorite, “Night on the town”, were the Youth Group goes for hot wieners and ice cream in Riverside Square. They are going to the movies to see the new Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. If you see a gang of bikers on the bike path it is okay it’s just St. Mark’s Youth Group.
